BNRThe Centre is an ideal location for taking science and engineering advances beyond the laboratory bench. Our pilot-scale facilities give you access to both solid and liquid waste streams. Work closely with our experts to advance your technology at any stage – whether you need a way to apply it, demonstrate it, or operate and refine your prototype or pilot systems. The Technology Development Program offers several options in providing a third party verification of your environmental performance claims.

Piloting

Facilities at both the Solid Waste Research & Development Facility and the Wastewater Research and Training Centre have been designed specifically for scale-up of novel technologies from bench- to pilot-scale using process streams from actual, full-scale operations.

We welcome the opportunity to work with you. Contact us for more information: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it .

Projects

Solid Waste Projects

Performance Assessment and Optimization of a Soil Treatment Process - The Centre has facilitated access to space and facilities for a company assessing technology for chemical and physical treatment of contaminated soil.

Performance Verification for a Low-Energy Electrode - Hypochlorite ions in the water facilitate disinfection. This technology is used in the recreational water industry.

WERF Co-Digestion Study - The Technology Development Program is coordinating the siting, installation, and operation of pilot digesters for a collaborative Water Environment Research Foundation (WERF) project. This project will evaluate opportunities for enhancing methane production by co-digesting fats/oils/greases (FOGs) and vegetative waste with municipal sludges.

Ceramic Membrane Pilot Plant - Development of methodologies and equipment “in house” that employs ceramic membranes to be used as research tools in effluent treatment and general thickening applications.

Street Sand Recycling - A project to clean and recycle street sand for reuse, including removal of salt from the wash water.

 Wastewater Projects

Phase 1: Testing of Onsite Wastewater Treatment System - Optimization of an ozone enhanced bio-filter treatment system intended for construction camp and remote resort applications.

Phase 1: Performance Verification of a Physical/Chemical Wastewater Treatment System - Preparation of a testing protocol for an ETV Canada evaluation of a novel system slated to be a replacement for sewage lagoons.

Phase 2: Performance Verification of a Physical/Chemical Wastewater Treatment System - EWMCE is the verification entity for an Environmental Technology Verification Canada (ETV Canada) evaluation of a novel system slated to be a replacement for sewage lagoons.

Microbubble diffusion system as oxygen source for BNR - Evaluation of a micro-bubble aeration system to a Biological Nutrient Removal process in wastewater treatment applications.

Chemical Residential Treatment System - Review of European laboratory testing data of a residential chemical-biological wastewater treatment system developed in Finland for applicability to the Alberta regulatory environment.

Development and Evaluation of a Wastewater Treatment Process - Biological Nutrient Removal from wastewater is increased by using micro bubbles for aeration.

Testing and Improvement of a Technology to treat Wastewater - This ozone-enhanced fixed-film biological treatment is designed for the industrial camp wastewater.
